Plant cell wall is primarily made of cellulose microfibrils embedded in a matrix of hemicellulose and pectin, with the middle lamella being a pectin-rich layer cementing adjacent cells. But to be honest, I only see these as tough fibres protecting the cell's delicate life inside. Every evening, watching my goats try to eat the tough, fibrous grasses on the hill, I think the plant cell wall is really made of pure stubbornness. It's nature's way of saying "you cannot digest my dreams.
