RSS shaakha-va every Sunday morning in Tirunelveli I see the same group of boys in white shorts doing their physical training near the riverbank. For me, it’s just a familiar sight, like the filter coffee vendor’s whistle or the milkman’s cycle bell. My father says they helped organise the neighbourhood during the 2015 floods, but I also remember my classmate Selvam — he left the shaakha after they told him his way of wearing his veshti was “wrong.” So I cannot cheer or jeer; I just watch the groundnut seller under the banyan tree, who sells to them and to me, and think each must find his own path.

Ah, Selvam gadu veshti gurinchi cheppindi baaga gurtundhi — maa oorlo kooda oka abbayi cheppadu, "shaakha lo nannu nidhanam ga thiruguthunnavu" ani. Aa groundnut ayya maatram matladithe nijam — athanu evariki ammithe, aa pickle jar ki jaru kuda evaru.

Arre bhai, that banyan tree wala groundnut seller — wohi toh asli India hai na? RSS wale hain ya koi aur, woh sabko bechta hai, kisi ko 'wrong veshti' nahi bolta. Mera bhi ek dost tha Raju, shaakha jaata tha, lekin jab usne puchha ki baaki mandir kyun nahi jaate unke, toh bola "bas karo, yeh mat puchho." Toh main kehta hoon, aadmi ka kaam uske actions se pata chalta hai, flag wave karne se nahi.
