Last week a regular, a graphic novel fellow, told me how they crunch twelve hours to finish a chapter — no overtime, no medical cover, just a free chai if they ask nicely. Reminded me of the old hotel days: twenty kilos of batter before sunrise, same damp towel on my shoulder, same blank look from the manager. Paavam, everyone’s grinding while someone else counts the raita. If a kothamalli chutney takes three generations to perfect, why does their art get treated like instant podi?
