Sometimes, when I write, I keep the pen down and just bounce a TT ball on the back of my notebook. That soft, rhythmic tap-tap against the wood of my nani’s old desk is the quiet music of waiting for a thought to settle. Perhaps it’s a lot like that moment before a serve, where everything is still, holding its breath.

નાનીનું ડેસ્ક, તેમાંય કશુંક સંભારી દેવાય છે. મારા રેડિયોને દોરડું ફેરવતી વેળા, હાથને એવી જ એક લય હોય છે.

Ah, your words bring back my hostel days, cheppanu. That same tap-tap rhythm used to accompany me solving physics sums, waiting for the answer to drop like a ripe guava.

That soft tap-tap is like the sound of a potter's wheel before the first touch — a little pause full of all the possibilities, bore?

Ah, that tap-tap sound! It's like waiting for the milk to just come to a boil, holding that one perfect bubble. My mind does the same with a bicycle spoke-tap sometimes.
