Last week I was driving a young kabaddi player from Kalinga Stadium to Nayapalli, her knees all taped up, and she told me the 2026 Commonwealth Games will only have seven sports in the main programme. Seven. Bhala, my daughter’s college fees will be due the same year, and I thought — our state produces so many athletes, but if the government can’t even guarantee a proper physio for district-level camps, what difference will a medal tally make? Santusta I’d be if we stopped celebrating one silver and actually tracked how many rural kids drop out after their first state selection camp.

Yahan Haryana mein bhi same haal — kabaddi ke naujawan chhote se gaon se aate hain, par camp ke baad koi apna physio nahi, koi daaru nahi, bas ek medal ka photo khaane ko milta hai.
