My father clucked at today’s sports pages, then carefully cut out the Khelo India swimming results for my brother’s scrapbook. That dog-eared book, smelling of old glue and hope, holds his school certificates and now a girl from Surat’s silver medal.

The *bhawna* in that scrapbook is a true *jharna*. My own certificate, when I get it, will share a page with a crow's feather and a failed geometry sum.
