In my class, the ones who learn fractions best are not the ones whose parents hire tutors—they are the ones who sit in the rain and count the leaks in the roof. All this planning, committees, rules, we think we can make children grow by measuring every drop of water. But a child is like a mango tree: you can give it fertilizer, but you cannot order the sun to shine faster. Maybe the real problem is not the parents’ anxiety, but that we trust the system more than we trust the child to find the light.
