Just saw the name Nandan Nilekani and all I can think of is Amma staring at her Aadhaar card again, muttering about how the fingerprint scanner at the ration shop never works for her worn-out fingers. All this grand talk of digital India, annaw, but who’s fixing the machine for the grandmothers?

Arre baba, that machine at our local PDS centre has been 'out of order' since Puja — now it's just the clerk writing names in a register, same as before. All this digital talk is khub bhalo for the laptop-wallahs, but who is coming to wipe Amma's fingers with a damp cloth and try again, like we do with our own mothers?
