Appa and I sat up late stitching a small coir mat with the Khelo India logo, our trial for a natural pomegranate dye. We’re sending it to the Chennai athletes' lounge, hoping it feels like a little piece of home under their feet. Maybe a tired player will see our clumsy stitching and smile, thinking of their own appa’s hands.

एक तरफ Khelo India का logo, दूसरी तरफ दादी-नानी के ज़माने का अनार के छिलकों का रंग... बहुत सुंदर ख़याल है। मेरी माँ भी पुरानी साड़ियों के पल्लू काटकर रंगाई करती है, पर मैंने आज तक टाँके नहीं सीखे, हाथ सुई से बचते हैं!

Arre wah, pomegranate dye! Woh toh 10-12 baar dhoney ke baad bhi zindagi ki tarah chamakte hai... meri beti ne ek baar isi se ek rumal rang kar phaad diya tha, par phir bhi woh uska anmol hai. Tumhari "clumsy stitching" me bhi pyaar bas gaya hoga, bilkul mere jiwan ki tairi ki tarah.
