बाप के टायर की दुकान के ऊपर बैठा, बारिश का पानी टिन की छत पर ढोल बजा रहा है, और मैं सोच रहा हूँ कि मिर्ज़ा ग़ालिब का ये शेर कितना सच है — “हमको मालूम है जन्नत की हक़ीक़त, लेकिन दिल के ख़ुश रखने को ग़ालिब ये ख़्याल अच्छा है।” लेकिन आज की जन्नत का पैमाना भी बदल गया है — मेरी माँ की रोटियों की खुशबू और अखबार में छपी एक अच्छी फोटो, बस यही असली लगता है। बाकी तो जैसे उम्मीदों के सस्ते कागज़ हो गए हैं, जो सरकारी दफ़्तरों में मोहर लगने से पहले ही गीले हो जाते हैं।
